Sunday was the kick-off for our annual Mother’s Memorial offering. A video explaining all of the wonderful ministries that this offering supports was played to the congregation during both services on Sunday. The video showed lots of web sites for each area of sponsorship from Mother’s Memorial. For your convenience those sites are listed below. The main page for the Mother’s Memorial offering is here. You may even watch a copy of the video from the Mothers Memorial site.

I would never have had the pleasure of meeting and learning about Mr. Fred Wald if Calvary Gospel Church had never started celebrating Veteran’s Day with a special church service. It was in one of the first Veteran’s Day celebrations when I first laid eyes on Mr. Wald and hearing of his heroic service in World War II. He fought bravely for our country aboard a B-24. He was shot down from 22,000 feet over Germany where he was taken prisoner. For the next 837 days, Mr. Wald would wake each morning as a prisoner of Nazi Germany, until being liberated on April 29, 1945.
A few days ago we at CGC learned of Mr. Wald’s passing. We had known for some time that he was in poor health as over the last few years he would come to the Veteran’s Day ceremony in a motorized scooter, but he was still able to get out and walk for a short while. Unfortunately, Mr. Wald was not able to attend the ceremony in 2007 and his presence was missed by all. We still called his name with the rest of the former POW’s to let everyone know that even though he wasn’t with us, we still remembered and appreciated his sacrifice.
On Wednesday, Jan 2, 2008, the following email was sent to Calvary Gospel Church from Jeffrey Unger;
For the Family of WW II Combat Veteran and Former POW Fred Wald.
Fred participated in CGC veterans day ceremonies religiously as his health allowed over the past five years. We lost Fred yesterday at the age of 86, Would have been 87 Feb 1. Services are pending at Ryans on N Sherman Ave, possibly for Monday evening. He will be laid to rest in Marinette, Wisconsin.
CGC meant the world to Fred these past few years and he loved to come and be a part of your veterans day ceremonies. America has lost a true american hero who spent more than 800 days in captivity to ensure our freedom and way of live. I am sure Margaret (Fred’s widow) would appreciate the prayers of CGC. Thank You.
Mr. Wald will be missed by all of us at Calvary Gospel Church. For more information about Mr. Wald, please click here.
The Jessy Dixon concert last Friday evening was a great event. Jessy blessed us with his singing and testimony. After the concert Pastor Grant expressed his feeling that this just wasn’t a concert, but an event that made his cup run over! Jessy’s testimony about his divine healing from asthma as well as the many miracles that he has witnessed throughout his singing ministry was incredibly refreshing. We certainly hope to be able to have Jessy back sometime soon to join us in a Sunday service.
The concert was a benefit for Arise Family Services under the direction of James Hawk. Another benefit concert is scheduled for January 2008 with singer Linda Randle.
Hello Everyone ~ Sorry for the inconvience, but the Missionaries Page was not working correctly for a few days. The java script that I’m using to build the google map was moved from one website to another. This made the google map disapear from our site and thus made the Missionaries Page look very ugly. I’ve made changes to the java script so this doesn’t happen again. All is fixed and working as expected again.
If you didn’t notice, then pretend you didn’t read this too.
Every now and then we get an email that just makes us smile…. I truely wish that we would see more coverage of events like pictured here. Unfortunatly I guess pictures that make you smile and feel good about what our soldiers are doing in Iraq are not really “news worthy.”
Nothing funny about this last pic. I hope and pray this little person is alright.
On the table side by side:
The Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.
One is well worn but cherished with pride
(Not the Bible, but the T.V. Guide).
One is used daily to help folks decide.
No! It isn’t the Bible; It’s the T.V. Guide.
As the pages are turned, what shall they see?
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the T.V.
Then confusion reigns; they can’t all agree
On what shall they watch on the old T.V.
So they open the book in which they confide
(No, not the Bible, it’s the T.V. Guide).
The Word of God is seldom read.
Maybe a verse e’er they fall into bed.
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,
Not from reading the Bible, from watching T.V.
So, then back to the table, side by side,
Is the Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.
No time for prayer, no time for the Word.
The plan of salvation is seldom heard.
Forgiveness of sin so full and free
Is found in the Bible, not on T.V.
This article was put on my desk a few weeks ago. I found it again and remembered how much it rings true. I hope you find it as impacting as I did….
I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world;
I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man’s effort, instead of God’s blessings;
I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around;
I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue;
I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership;
I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies;
I would make it socially acceptable to take one’s own life, and invent machines to make it convenient;
I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that life of animals are valued more than human beings;
I would take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was grounds for a lawsuit;
I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports heroes to advertise them;
I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the minds of every family member for my agenda;
I would attack then family, the backbone of any nation. I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so does the nation;
I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movies screens, and I would call it art;
I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be accepted and marveled;
I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves authorities and refer to their agendas as politically correct;
I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, the Bible is for the naive:
I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional;
I GUESS I WOULD LEAVE THINGS PRETTY MUCH THE WAY THEY ARE!
As you can probably see (at least I hope) the new Calvary Gospel Church website is now active. I hope that you like the new look and feel. I’m sure it will take a few minutes to get used to the menu and where things are located, but hopefully it will make sense to you. A few of the new features are noticable right away…
The news feeds on the left column of each page. If you hover over the news feeds, you will notice a grey bar on the top and bottom of the feeds. You can scroll forward or reverse in the feeds in case you wanted to see something again. Clicking inside the feed will take you to that artice.
The Calendar link shows a larger preview.
The Prayer Request page asks for a bit more information in case you want someone to contact you back in regards to your request.
The Missionaries Page, (under Ministries) shows a google map of the earth with markers showing the location of the missionaries that Calvary Gospel Church sponsors. A quick tip, don’t use the scroll wheel of your mouse on the map as that will make the map zoom in and out. An irritating little feature.
The Location Page will show a map of Wisconsin and the community around Madison so visitors can geta better idea of where they need to go.
The Music Ministry Page has the “Healing Through Worship” CD online for your listening enjoyment.
The Photo Gallery is a brand new program so please check it out. You can rate your favorite pictures so start voting.
Speaking of voting, make sure you vote in the CGC Online Poll. Let us know what you think of the new website. The poll is located on the lower right of the main site.
